Pearls 101

Pearls, may not be highly appreciated enough to make us drool as diamonds do, but nothing screams CHIC the way pearls paired with a little black dress would! Sometimes we even forget considering our pearls are just as delicate and sensitive as our diamonds are to be. It just so happens that there are some ways to keep the shine and luster of your pearls to last an extra lifetime. Yes, keep reading because this is important and in fact, your mother or grandmother even, might not already know this. Pearls are sensitive to their surroundings, especially where you leave them or how you wear them. Our daily moisturizers with strong chemicals like lotions, perfumes and sprays can wear off or affect the shine and color of our pearls. Avoid leaving them around or laying on hot surface, such as by the hair straightener (something I've mistakenly done before), by a window where the sun's heat reflects onto your pearls, or worse is placing them on the television or radio. These are the many reasons to cause the discolored effect of pearls. Cleaning the delicates is simple as buffing them with either silk, velvet, or satin. I sometimes enjoy buffing pearls using baby powder with satin as it gives them a smooth with a fresh scented finishing touch. Lay them flat on appropriate fabric in a cool tempered room or a safe box, you don't want the strings stretching till it snaps as it's hanging in the front of your mirror! As much as these little babies love to be worn, they need to be pampered just as often. Now you can flaunt your newly pampered pearls to your next garden party! Believe it or not, you could insult some posh lady by wearing pearls with your A&F 'tee' with anything 'denim'. It was "cute" in middle school, but not as you're now aging ladies. Now why must we wear pearls, is what you're probably wondering?  Some of the most beautiful women of the 19th century as the late Mademoiselle Chanel and Audrey Hepburn flaunt their pearls everyday of their lives. Simply because wearing them compliments our beauty. If it makes us feel beautiful, then why shouldn't we wear them? Au revoir!
